Our Story

Lorenzo's story begins with the expansion of the West. The townsite was originally acquired by Lorenzo Dow, an employee of the C. B. Livestock Company, in April 1910. By 1911, the town began to stir with life—the surveyor H.E. Smith mapped out the lots, the first post office opened, and the very first train of the Crosbyton-South Plains Railroad rolled through, connecting Lorenzo to the world.

Education has always been a pillar of the community, with the first classes held in 1911 inside a C. B. Livestock Company store. The town continued to grow, officially incorporating in 1924. Through the boom of the 1920s and the resilience required during the Dust Bowl, the people of Lorenzo have always defined the town's character.
